Corporate need for reliable estimates of timber product volume for use in long-term
wood supply modelling are increasingly important to project market position and
available resources for new product lines. These estimates are also necessary to
maintain and increase public credibility regarding the sustainability of forest resources.
Reliable timber volume estimates can be best obtained through the use of locally valid
yield tables. One way to obtain such tables is through the application of tree volume
models based (calibrated) on locally collected stem analysis data.
BUCK software facilitates the generation of locally reliable timber yield tables by
applying the latest achievements in stem profile modelling and taking advantage of the
capability of personal computers to quickly perform sophisticated statistical
calculations.
